Did you ever wonder why it is that you can sit down all day long at your computer and not perform any manual labor during the day and still manage to come home with neck pain or back pain?  The answer in most cases is bad posture caused by bad ergonomics.

It is amazing that we don’t sustain more back pain and neck pain given the structure of our bodies and the physical demands we place on it.

In my San Diego chiropractic practice, I frequently treat patients who experience chronic and severe back and neck pain tied to easy-to-remedy ergonomic problems in their workspace.

Anyone at any time can develop back or neck pain.  Lifting, operating machinery, sports, auto accidents, and falls are some of the most common injuries I see in my office.  These kinds of injuries are typical.

The majority of my patients think that back pain develops from chores like lifting heavy sacks of concrete but in fact most are due to bad posture related to computer use.  Poor placement of your mouse pad accounts for much of this.

Bad posture causes postural stress which occurs whenever the natural curve of the spine is either reversed or exaggerated.

Bad posture causes muscle fatigue, irritation, inflammation, back and neck pain, and even arthritis over the long run.  To help relieve neck pain and back pain it is important to address the causes of your postural stress.   For most of us this means we will be looking at our computer set-ups for bad ergonomics.
